Confirm Terry Injury
Chelsea’s John Terry has admitted he is finding it tough to breathe
and is left gasping for air during games due to two cracked ribs. The
Chelsea Captain has stated he intends to play through the pain.
Terry – who may well be involved in the best odds for euro2012
– had to be substituted in last night’s Champions League quarter-final
second leg against Benfica after an hour due to the rib injury.
“I couldn’t breathe and my chest was closing up,” he said. “I was
having a difficult time, especially first half. You can’t treat it, but I
can get through games, definitely.”
Terry suffered the injury in the first-leg of the tie in Lisbon last
week, however the former England Captain played 90 minutes in his side’s
4-2 at Aston Villa on Saturday.
Chelsea will want their Captain available for the rest of the season,
the blues face a hectic end to the season with eight games in
twenty-six days. This run includes two semi-finals, one against
Barcelona in the Champions League and the other versus Tottenham in the
FA Cup at Wembley.
The London club struggled without Terry when he was sidelined due to a knee injury earlier in the campaign.
Caretaker Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo is hopeful the Englishman
will be able to make it through to the busy schedule as they fight for
two trophies and look to close in on fourth place.
Di Matteo said: “He got a knock on his rib and that’s why we had to
take him off. We’ll assess him and see how he is. We hope that he is
going to be OK.”
If the 31-year-old will hope to stay fit and make it through to the
end of the season. With Euro 2012 coming up, Terry will want to give
himself the best chance of being selected for England this summer.
